Walk through the halls of the Junior School and you will see student-created art all along the way. Students in Grades 1 through 6 receive weekly instruction in our beautiful art studio, which has a cathedral ceiling. Girls enjoy sketching and drawing with a variety of media, as well as painting, clay, collage, printmaking and more! Each year our Grade 6 class works with an artist from the community to create an "art legacy project" that becomes a lasting addition to Sue Bett House or on the school grounds.
In the senior grades, girls explore a wide range of themes through studio work that may include drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking, as well as the creation of collage, multimedia works, and works using emergent technologies. Students use the critical analysis process when evaluating their own work and the work of others. They also investigate aspects of art history and explore an artist's use of materials and techniques to further develop their own work.
By Grade 12, visual art students deconstruct art works and explore connections between art and society. They explore and investigate a range of materials, processes and techniques that can be applied in their own artwork. Students also research and make connections between various works of art in personal, contemporary, historical and cultural contexts.
Whether through classes with visiting artists or our teachers within in our gorgeous art studios, or through gallery visits, art students are exposed to a wealth of talent and artistic ideas.
