Families Dive into Discovery at Junior School Math Night
Branksome Hall’s Junior School families came together for a joyous and engaging evening at Family Math Night, held on November 6, 2024. The event featured eight interactive rooms, each dedicated to different mathematical strands, skills and concepts. Parents and students participated in a range of fun, challenging and hands-on activities designed to highlight the importance of mathematics in everyday life.
Attendees explored a variety of math-focused experiences, from problem-solving challenges and puzzles to exercises exploring fluency and real-world applications of math. With a special event “passport” in hand, students and their parents were able to plan their own adventure through the rooms.
“We were thrilled with how families embraced the evening,” said Emily MacLean, Head, Junior School. “It was a wonderful opportunity for parents and their children to explore math together, and it was clear that everyone had a great time learning through the interactive activities.”
The event also encouraged families to share how they use mathematics in their daily lives. Many parents and guardians submitted stories and photos, which were displayed in a special slideshow, showing how mathematics is integrated into their work and home environments.
A special thank you to the Junior School faculty for their support of this event, with extra-special recognition for Learning Leads Michelle Iwata and Jo Trotter, supported by the Lead Learning Team. Branksome is grateful for Michelle’s and Jo’s leadership in making this event a reality and looks forward to more opportunities in the future to engage families in continuing to build a strong mathematics community.
