Branksome Rowers to Represent Canada at the World Rowing Championships and CanAmMex Regatta

On July 24, 2024, Rowing Canada announced the selection of the Canadian team for the CanAmMex Regatta in Mexico as well as several new crews to the roster for the 2024 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines, Ontario. Three remarkable Branksome Hall rowers, Thea LAPHAM’24, Sabrina Seville and Jaime Taylor were announced as crew members for the competitions taking place this summer.
In June, Jaime, Thea and Sabrina were selected to participate in the Rowing Canada training camp in St. Catherines, where they have been honing their skills with 11 other female rowers from various schools and rowing clubs across the country. Along with two coaches from Ridley College, Branksome’s rowing coach Scott Fleming worked with the girls to strengthen their techniques in hopes of making the national team. After the training camp concluded, the rowers participated in a timed trial to determine if they qualified for this year’s upcoming competitions. Their dedication to the sport paid off in a big way when it was announced that they would be representing the country.

Jaime has been selected to represent Canada at the CanAmMex Regatta from August 6 to 11, 2024. In her first time representing the Canadian national team, she will join 25 other young Canadian athletes for a chance to hone their skills for university competition, and an opportunity to proudly represent Canada on the international stage.

Grade 12 student Sabrina and recent graduate and former Head Prefect Thea LAPHAM’24 have been selected to represent Team Canada alongside 81 other athletes at the World Rowing Championships in St. Catherines from August 18 to 25, 2024. In this competition, Thea and Sabrina will compete against rowers from around the globe in one of the world’s biggest regattas. This is Thea’s first time representing Team Canada, and Sabrina’s second time, having earned her stripes on the national team at the 2023 CanAmMex Regatta.

We couldn't be prouder of these athletes and look forward to watching their competitions next month!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
