Annie Deng will be attending Brown University for Chemical Biology. Annie is most excited to delve deeper into the subject of biochemistry and examine the intersection of these two fields in STEM.
“Branksome has really helped with providing different educational opportunities,” Annie shares. She reflects on her Personal Project, in which students are given the chance to explore a topic that evoked interest and passion. “I learned more about gene-editing by doing research about it and making my own mini-documentary.”
Annie attributes her university preparedness and leadership skills to Branksome Hall’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program. “The IB is quite challenging, but at the same time it’s really rewarding. Being able to do these university-level courses, it’s really developed me into a more academically resilient person,” she explains. Annie credits her ability to successfully communicate, collaborate and lead to Branksome Hall’s co-curricular activities. Her time participating in Debating and the World Affairs Conference, as well as starting the Branksome Hall Chemistry Club, allowed her to grow into the best version of herself.
While Annie is planning to pursue a pre-med track during her studies at Brown, she’s also hoping to have opportunities to partake in research projects, as she dreams of making a difference within her community.
