PrincipalED Podcast Drops Second Episode: Hockey Day with the Branksome Highlanders

The PrincipalED podcast has officially dropped its second episode, “Hockey Day with the Branksome Highlanders,” featuring a candid conversation with Branksome Hall’s very own hockey stars.
In this new episode, host Grace McCallum is joined by Branksome Hall’s hockey coach Jenna Kelly and three talented Grade 12 players—Tara, Mackenzie and Jessie—just minutes before the puck drops at the school’s much-anticipated annual Hockey Day. Recorded at the iconic Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto (formerly the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs), this episode brings fans closer to the heart of the school’s beloved athletics and hockey programs.

In this engaging conversation, the players and their coach open up about their favorite pre game rituals, how they push through the early-morning practices and the essential skills they’ve gained both on and off the ice. They also touch on the significance of mentoring younger athletes, sharing advice for future generations of hockey players. The episode rounds out with a thoughtful discussion on the future of women’s and girls’ hockey, with each guest offering their hopes for the evolution of the sport.

This podcast also marks the official public launch of the Highlanders’ new logo, featuring a female warrior embodying strength and resilience.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
