Branksome Hall Featured as Must-Watch Boarding School in K12 Digest International Magazine
Branksome Hall is featured as the cover story in the latest Global Edition of K12 Digest magazine as a “Must-Watch Boarding School in 2024.” The school continues its century-long legacy of empowering girls and young women, having grown from a small institution into a vibrant and diverse community of more than 900 students, offering an IB education from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.
In the issue, Principal Grace McCallum was invited to share her thoughts on how Branksome is leading the way in shaping young minds to be the leaders of tomorrow. “Branksome has always been about nurturing globally minded learners and leaders,” she notes in the article, highlighting the school’s unique blend of tradition and innovation, enriched by the IB framework, which promotes inquiry-based learning and critical thinking.
As the cover story details, at Branksome Hall, the school experience goes beyond academics—it’s about personal growth and building lasting friendships. “We believe that creativity, physical activity and service toward others are all part of a fun and healthy life,” says McCallum. Branksome’s day and boarding students engage in diverse extracurricular activities, from the arts to athletics, finding their passions and forming bonds.
“Branksome Hall is more than just a place of learning,” according to McCallum. “It’s a community that believes in cultivating global leaders.” From the Junior School’s Action Committee to partnerships with local organizations, students are encouraged to engage and make a difference in their communities.
The school’s commitment to global education includes international projects and cultural exchanges, enriching students’ perspectives. It is also reflected in Branksome’s welcoming and inclusive Boarding school community, with 54 students from more than 12 countries residing on its campus in Toronto this year.
As the article notes, under McCallum's leadership, Branksome Hall is entering an exciting new chapter. With nearly two decades of experience leading IB schools globally, McCallum aims to build on the school’s legacy while fostering diversity, equity and personalized learning. “While I may have the mindset of a leader, I am a teacher at heart—students will always be at the centre of my decision-making,” she asserts.
As Branksome Hall shapes its future, Principal McCallum is dedicated to empowering girls to become leaders, creators and changemakers. With McCallum’s strategic insight and commitment to student success, and a new Innovation Centre and Studio Theatre building opening shortly, the K12 Digest feature article vividly captures how Branksome Hall is heading into a transformative new era.
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*
*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.
