Alum Donor Wall: A Legacy of Courage and Opportunity

Every graduating class has a certain personality and former Branksome boarder, Becca McCORMACK Scarratt’79, says hers remains “rambunctious.” To this day, Becca and lifelong best friend, Judy GARAY MacKay’79, travel together regularly and even attended their 25-year reunion together.
“Our entire class always has a lot to chat about,” says Becca. That’s why she’s passionate about adding her name to the Alum Donor Wall, a highly visible installation in iCAST celebrating our generous alums. Shaped in a five-foot-tall BH, 300 alum names will greet visitors as they enter from the overpass connecting the Athletics & Wellness Centre (AWC) to iCAST.

“Branksome taught me to set my own objectives and achieve them,” says Becca, crediting the school’s values for her acquired ability to just go for it. She now owns a physiotherapy clinic in Rimouski, Quebec. It took courage for her to set up a successful private clinic in a francophone environment (armed only with her Senior School French classes!).

Becca got the most out of her Branksome opportunity. As the only boarder on sports teams in Grade 9, she received special privileges to go straight to dinner in her athletic wear. In Grade 13, she was a Prefect and captain of the basketball team.

“I’m passionate about giving back,” says Becca, who has also contributed to Branksome's financial assistance program to pay forward the opportunities she received from other donors’ generosity. “Thanks to Branksome, I am still committed to pushing myself beyond my perceived limitations.”

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
