  • Naomi

    Senior Writing Editor
I joined Perennial last year because of my passion for writing. over the last 4 years or so I’ve been encouraged by friends and teachers to continue expressing myself through writing, and eventually, writing developed as a passion for me. At my school I didn’t have an outlet to pour my writing into, so I started to write just for myself. My goal as writing editor this year is to create a space for students like me who express themselves through poetry, prose, and short stories.
  • Sylvia

    Senior Art Editor
As the official Branksome Hall literary magazine, Perennial owns the most demanding club description in our school. To fulfill it means to run year after year not because of creativity hours or student leadership, but because of a fundamental duty to preserve the creative legacies of Branksome students.

I joined Perennial two years ago because even as a new student, I saw its permanence in this school as the representative body of creative writers and artists. These are students who are driven by an urgency to capture those feelings, ideas, and stories that pass by too quickly, and to share their world with sensitivity and honesty. I knew then that if there existed any trustworthy place to leave my mark, it would be Perennial, welcoming my name into its long history and safeguarding my artistic voice for years after I graduate.
  • Emma

    Senior Communications Editor
Perennial has always felt like an intimate diary of student expression to me. It captures the brilliant artistic work of Branksome students, beyond a formal academic setting. I only started Perennial last year, but in that short year I’ve been able to witness the sheer talent of classmates I see every single day. I want to participate in the preservation of such innovation. Many times, the intensity of high school can subdue students’ interest and devotion to the arts; it’s a trap I’ve had to pull myself out of.

My goal as a Perennial club head is to motivate Branksome to revive (or even discover) their love of art and take pride in their creations—because I know how many talented students there are in this school.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
