A Book and A Reader

A Book and A Reader

by Abigail, Grade 10
This synopsis looks good,
The cover is nice,
Open up this book,
Come and start a new life.
Here is a new home,
Meeting new friends along the way,
I want to keep on reading,
Please don’t let me reach the end.
I’ve danced between the pages
Singing out the words,
I can feel their joy,
Their pain and agony

The pages have slit my fingers,
The words have pierced my heart,
It is as if the author wielded a knife
That has torn my soul apart
I’ve laughed with these characters,
Cried with them too
Fell in love with them,
But with them, I died
Now the book has reached its end
My broken heart cannot be healed
And it’s now that I realize
It
Was
Never
real
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
