Branksome Hall Hosts ‘200 Women’ Canadian Premiere

This fall, Branksome Hall proudly hosts the Canadian premiere of 200 Women: Who Will Change the Way You See the World, celebrating the global portrait exhibition’s 10th anniversary. Having toured internationally, through the U.S., Sweden, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, this acclaimed collection makes its Toronto debut.

The Branksome Hall community explores the 200 Women exhibit in iCAST.

Showcased throughout Branksome’s new Karen L. Jurjevich Innovation Centre and Studio Theatre (iCAST) for its grand opening, the exhibition features a curated collection of 37 large-scale portraits and candid interviews with trailblazers such as Margaret Atwood, Jane Goodall, and the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, alongside global activists, artists and innovators.

The exhibition continues Branksome’s legacy of empowering female leadership—building on activist Gloria Steinem’s 2017 visit to the school for the "Women Strong" event, where she reminded the community that progress begins when women are seen, heard and given true opportunity.

At the iCAST launch ceremony on September 17, Principal Grace McCallum highlighted the school’s commitment to surrounding students with models of possibility, leadership and vision. “That commitment is vividly displayed right here with ‘200 Women,’ a groundbreaking global project founded on listening to women’s stories," she shared. "Branksome is proud to be the first Canadian institution to host this exhibition. Celebrating its 10th anniversary alongside the grand opening of iCAST, this collection of striking portraits honours that shared legacy, inspiring students—and all who visit—to keep opening doors for future generations.”

Created by Ruth Hobday and Geoff Blackwell, the project focuses on the humanity of each subject, with each woman answering five fundamental questions, including: “What brings you happiness?” and “What single word do you most identify with?”

The 200 Women exhibition remains on display in iCAST until November. Learn more at www.twohundredwomen.com.
