What is the LEADERSHIP PATHWAY?

Camp Type: Leadership in Training

For campers ready to step up and shine as leaders, our progressive leadership pathway provides opportunities to grow as individuals, strengthen peer-to-peer collaboration, and mentor and guide others. Leadership Essentials & Development

Our leadership pathway begins with L.E.A.D., where students finishing Grade 7 will dive into strengths discovery, teamwork, communication and decision-making. Through fun, hands-on challenges and guided activities, participants will explore and develop key aspects of leadership while expanding their individual abilities. They will build self-awareness through independent reflection and personal strengths work, and practise collaboration in small-group problem-solving and leadership activities. They will then have the opportunity to bring these skills together in team environments to maximize their leadership potential.

By the end of the one-week program, campers will gain greater confidence, stronger leadership skills and a deeper understanding of how they can positively influence those around them.

Leader-In-Training

Campers finishing Grade 8 can participate in our two-week Leader-in-Training (LIT) program, where engaging, hands-on activities help strengthen lifelong leadership skills. Throughout the program, participants will develop effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities, along with practical strategies for navigating peer-to-peer dynamics. With a strong focus on teamwork and shared responsibility, campers will learn to support, motivate and lead one another through a variety of group challenges. By the end of the two weeks, L.I.T.s will gain confidence, stronger interpersonal skills and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a positive, influential peer leader.

LITs can earn up to 10 Ontario Community Involvement Hours toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by putting their leadership skills into action—supporting younger campers, facilitating activities and helping create a fun and positive camp experience for everyone. The L.I.T. program also includes an exciting overnight experience that challenges participants to work collaboratively and lead with confidence. During the overnight, L.I.T.s will be encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, take initiative and build independence and resilience while taking responsibility for themselves and their peers. In a supportive environment, campers reflect on their growth as leaders and teammates, creating memories and skills that last far beyond our overnight campfire.

Counsellor-in-Training

Our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) program is a three-week, application-based experience for students finished Grade 9, designed to deepen leadership development through direct mentorship alongside experienced staff. Throughout the program, participants will gain hands-on experience working with campers of all ages, learning how to lead groups while fostering a safe, supportive and engaging camp environment. CITs participate in a variety of dynamic, skill-building activities, developing practical abilities in communication, behaviour guidance, activity planning and facilitation, and camper care, while also exploring important topics such as child development, Community, Inclusion and Belonging (CIB), and positive role modelling.

Through observation, guided practice and supported leadership opportunities, CITs will build confidence and gain a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to be an effective leader and camp counsellor. By the end of the three weeks, participants are well-prepared for future roles in camp settings and emerge as capable, caring and empowered young mentors.

C.I.Ts have the opportunity to earn up to 30 Ontario Community Involvement Hours, which count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by volunteering within our younger camp groups. The program also includes an exciting overnight experience that challenges participants to work collaboratively and lead with confidence. During the overnight, C.I.Ts will be encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, take initiative and build independence and resilience while taking responsibility for themselves and their peers. In a supportive environment, campers will reflect on their growth as leaders and teammates, creating memories and skills that last far beyond the overnight campfire.
