It was an action-packed day for Branksome Hall’s Junior D1 Volleyball and Senior Badminton teams on Wednesday, February 28, as they wrapped up an exciting winter season at their championship tournaments. Held concurrently at Branksome Hall, these tournaments filled the halls with talented athletes from across the city, all eager to see who would be crowned 2024 CISAA champions.

The Junior Volleyball and Senior Badminton teams were chosen to host the CISAA championships due to their first-place standings in the league.

The Junior Volleyball team had gone undefeated in their preliminary games, with an impressive score of eight wins and zero losses, propelling them into the championships. In their five games of the season, the Senior Badminton team only had one loss on their record, to Havergal College, with whom they were tied for first place. School pride was high as the community gathered in the Athletics and Wellness Centre and Senior School Gym to see our athletes battle for gold.

In the AWC Gym that day, the Junior Volleyball team eagerly competed in their semifinal game. After defeating De La Salle College, Branksome went up against Havergal College, ranked second overall in the Junior Division and the Branksome team’s biggest opponent. The games were intense, but Branksome came out victorious after acing both of their matches with final scores of 25–10 and 25–12.

On the other side of campus, the Senior Badminton team competed in a series of six matches against Havergal College to determine who would be crowned CISAA champions. The Highlanders gave it their all, but lost 4–2 against their opponents, putting them in a very impressive second place.

Congratulations to the Junior Volleyball and Senior Badminton teams on a successful winter season, as well as the U14 Badminton, Hockey, Squash and Ski teams for placing in their off-campus championships. We look forward to the upcoming spring season and to honouring our Senior & Middle School Highlanders at the Athletics Celebration in May.
