Financial Assistance: Passionate Leadership from Alums Who 'Forgot to Leave'

Maybe it’s the dream of helping Branksome Hall’s next top AI engineer reach the upper echelons of IBM. Or perhaps it’s the possibility of helping the school’s next star rower get early acceptance to a top university. As President of the Branksome Hall Alumnae Association (BHAA), Alex MORTON’09 knows alums support Financial Assistance through the Alumnae Association Endowed Bursary Fund for many reasons.
“It varies, but it always depends on an alum’s own excellent experiences at Branksome, and the desire to help a deserving student, who couldn’t otherwise attend, learn and grow.”

Morton, who confesses she “forgot to leave and has been volunteering since I graduated,” is passionate about Branksome’s mission, specifically the executive team’s overarching goal to create and sustain an engaged and supportive community, along with stewardship of the Alumnae Association Endowed Bursary Fund, the largest single endowed fund held by the school.

Their commitment to the school is fueled by continuous engagement like, for example, a recent visit with fellow BHAA members to tour the Boarding houses and see iCAST coming to life, beam by beam.

“We’re so impressed by what we’re seeing, the school’s constant evolution. When alums stay connected, that really helps drive commitment to Financial Assistance and support of the school at large,” she says.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
