She leads on the water and in the community. Duke is just the beginning.

Jaime Taylor knows a thing or two about discipline. By sunrise, she’s often already on the water with Branksome Hall’s Rowing team; by mid-morning, she’s leading club initiatives as this year’s Clubs Prefect. Now, with her sights set on Duke University, she’s preparing to take that same drive into NCAA rowing, and a degree in Economics.

“Rowing taught me that you can do hard things, and not to limit yourself,” Jaime shares. “And serving as a club head and then Clubs Prefect helped me to connect with parts of the Branksome community I wouldn’t have otherwise. That was incredibly formative for me.”

It was her Higher Level Economics class that sparked a genuine passion for the subject. “It was always the highlight of my day. You’d learn things that really aren’t covered in other courses,” she explains. With big goals ahead, like breaking into investment banking, Jaime feels her Branksome experience, from the IB curriculum to the 4:00 a.m. rowing starts, has set a powerful foundation for success.

Our schedule is intense, and it fosters excellence. I know I’m ready.

Looking ahead to life at Duke, Jaime is eager to grow both academically and athletically.

It’s a totally different environment from Branksome, bigger, outside the city and I know that’s going to really help me grow as a person,” she says. “More than anything, I want to make way for excellence in everything I do.
