The Athlete

To say Madee is a budding athlete is an understatement. And at Branksome she has had many opportunities to flex her muscle

An accomplished skier in slalom and giant slalom (for which she trains three to four times a week), Madee has also been on the soccer, swim, cross-country and softball teams at Branksome. “There have been so many opportunities for me to try all kinds of sports,” says Madee.

The coaches are all amazing. I learn something at every practice.

She particularly loves being on the soccer team. “The coach is incredible, and I get to bond with my friends,” says Madee, who adds that she wouldn’t be able to partake in so many athletics without the support of her teachers.

Her classroom work has also benefited from sport, because the experiences she has on the soccer field, for example, are transferable.

“You know that you can learn from a mistake, and teamwork is big,” says Madee.

To score a goal in soccer, you have to work and communicate with your peers.

Athletics have also made her a more determined learner. “I’m always willing to work harder and get better.”
