Learn MoreSchool-Home Partnership
School-home partnerships are essential to supporting each child's educational journey at Branksome Hall. There are many opportunities for parents to engage with their daughter’s learning and various supports available if required.
Scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences are offered to all parents in the fall. Approximately one month before conferences, parents receive an email inviting them to sign up online. Meetings can also be arranged with faculty at any time throughout the school year, should the need arise. Please contact the Junior School Office with any concerns.
Three-Way Conferences occur in December and are collaborative meetings involving the student, their parents and the teacher. These conferences serve as a platform for open communication and reflection on the student's progress, achievements and areas for growth. Conversations are guided by evidence of learning, and it is a time to celebrate learning and set goals.
These conferences are valuable in fostering a partnership between students, parents and teachers, encouraging shared responsibility for the student's learning journey. They promote student agency, as students take an active role in discussing their learning and setting goals for improvement.
Student-Led Conferences are held in April and are an important assessment tool within the Primary Years Programme. They are designed to empower students to take ownership of their learning journey and to develop self-assessment skills. During these conferences, students share their learning experiences, demonstrate their understanding of specified concepts and reflect on their progress and areas for growth. This approach encourages students to become more reflective learners and fosters parent engagement while giving a window into the daily classroom program.
Learning Strategies support is an integral part of Branksome’s academic program. We aim to work with students, their families and teachers to support each student's academic success.
The Junior School Learning Strategies Centre, located on the second floor of the Junior School, operates as the hub of learning support for all students. It is staffed by our Learning Strategies teachers. Students also attend the Centre for one-on-one and small-group support.
Students with identified learning needs have individual Learning Strategies Plans developed for them. This plan is updated annually and identifies areas of strength and areas for growth. Learning Strategies Plans (LSPs) are shared with each student’s teachers to provide them with strategies for differentiated instruction in the classroom. Students are encouraged to become familiar with their Learning Strategies Plan to understand how they best learn, adopt an approach to learning that is most effective for their learning style and develop skills to advocate constructively and effectively.
As part of the Student Support and Well-Being Team, the Junior School has two dedicated Social Workers. In partnership with teachers, the Social Workers are available to help students develop their social-emotional learning skills in the Junior School classrooms four days a week. They can provide emotional support and consultation to individual students and their families. Our Junior School Social Workers are Christina Lanteigne and Yasamin Zia Saidi.
